PCC Family Ride @ Wenas May 15-18, 2008 |
  |
| Eastern
Washington is a mix of barren, rolling hills and irrigated fruit and hay pastures. |
  |
| Take a left on
N. Wenas Road; take a left on Longmire. |
  |
| Go past Lake
Wenas and go left on Mallory Road. Where there are forks in
the road, always go left. |
  |
  |
| Be sure to
close the last gate behind you. |
  |
| Find your
friends, (Howdy, Tom & Mary Poste and Sandy Wade) park your
rig and water your horses (Tonka demonstrates). |
  |
| Find someone
to put up your highline (thanks, Jack!) and put out your
horses with their hay bags. |
  |
| We took Suzie
and Tonka on this trip; camp was easy to set up with the
help of friends. |

+ |
| Later in
the evening, I set out with Jack Gillete (with his GPS) and
Laurie Huston. |

|
| Above is
Laurie on the big, jumping horse Duke and Jack on his
wonderful mule, Rosie; |

Mary Ann on ever faithful, Nick and Mike on his flashy Paint
River. |
  |
| We wound our
way around a ridge back to camp as the sun was low. |
  |
| Mike Lentz
points the way to a well known attraction, the old trapper
cabin. |
  |
| The next
morning, we were a little lazy but grateful when Tom & Mary
made breakfast. Friday was going to be hot (100 degrees by
the next day) so we didn't tarry too long before setting
out. |
  The first photo
is Dave on his mule, Susie and Tom on Jazz; next is Kathy on
Tonka;
  |
| Above,
is Mary on Trigger.
Tom Poste led
off on our 6 hour ride followed by Mary Poste, Kathy Jones
and Dave Jones. The heat required frequent water
breaks, for both people & animals. |
  |
| Tonka, being
an Eastern Washington horse, quickly found the snow a good
source of cool water. |
  |
| Dave and Susie
always like to do a bit of trail blazing and on this ride,
Dave found an elk shed. |
  |
| The forests
are filled with yellow, bull and sugar pine. |
  |
| Above, deer
moss, grows on most of the tress to serve as forage for the
deer and elk during the winder. |

|
| The scenery
was spectacular! |
  |
| The deep
purple flower is Larkspur. |
  |
| We found
Indican Paintbrush and wild daiseys. |
  |
| Oxysallis is
on the left. |
  |
| lLupine is on
the right. |
  |

  |
| We climbed for
3 hours and ended up on a ridge overlooking Hwy 410 and the
city of Naches. Yes, that's Mt. Rainier in the distance.
What a site! |

  |
| We stopped for
lunch on a south-ward facing ridge which over-looked the
city of Naches and Hwy 410. |
  |
| Tom decided to
take the 'alternate scenic route' back that took us another
3 hours! |
  |
| Thankful to be
back, some rolled in the dirt and some bathes in the creek. |
  |
| Time to visit
other friends; above is Andy Bales with Bob Diamond, Jr. To
the right, are Crisco and behind him, is Cierra. |
  |
| Saturday saw
another ride and when we returned, those left behind were
glad of our return; above, Mary hugs her 'monster puppy',
Sam I Am while Mary Ann's mini Aussie, Sadie, gets a bone as
reward. |
  |
| Saturday was
'potluck night' and chance is visit with friends. On the
left, Tom fixes a fruit cobble in his dutch oven and on the
right, Bob Diamond, Sr. and his ervice dog, Abby, take a
rest. |
  |
| Some people
had really good friends. Denny Dargan gives Jack a welcome
massage. |
