Cedar Creek Bridge restoration at Elbe

This is the old Cedar Bridge in September of 2007. The
timbers were rotted and filled in with mud, sometimes
pastern-deep.
The good news was that this project started on a beautiful, fall
day. | |
 | |
The restoration of this bridge was easier in some ways (
see below) than some because the timbers could be loaded
onto the bucket of Bill Golding's tractor and trundled to the
site. | |
 | |
The documentation team showed up early (Jane McKillip,
Barb Downing and Mary Poste) as Bill waits for
the rest of the work team to arrive.
 | |
Cedar Bridge crosses a beautiful, clear stream where
horses often stop to drink.
Mary Poste stands beside the pile of rotten timbers taken from
the old bridge. | |
| |
Project Leader, Mike Lentz, directs the construction from
an advantageous
position. He is also trying to convince the boys that playing in
the mud can be fun. | |

Down in the muck from the left is Bill Rodwell, Bill Golding
(in the yellow pants), Dave
Jones and Bert McKillip (in the red pants),
| |
All those heavy stringers had to be packed in, either by hand or
by mule. Tom Poste
handles the stern end while Dave Jones and Bert McKillip
maneuvers the front of this
80 lb., 12 foot beam. | |
| | |
Sure, Bill can
laugh...he didn't just loose his boot in the mud!
